The wedding cakes in India are the traditional multi-tiered fruit base cake but with a bit of a different twist.
To keep the price of the wedding cake down, a high dummy cake with sugar icing may be used. Since it is still customary to have the cake cutting ceremony, a slice of the real cake is inserted into the dummy cake.
Everyone is then permitted to eat a piece of the icing.
